Transition to Remote Practice

To adequately prepare new to remote health practitioners for remote area employment through the provision of focused education and on-site mentoring.

On successful completion of the Transition to Remote Practice program participants will be able to:

• Provide remote health care in a culturally safe manner.
• Understand the social determinants of health in the region and the clinical response to social and health inequities.
• Determine their scope of practice in the remote area context.
• Use the suite of remote primary healthcare manuals (including CARPA) to provide evidence-based, best-practice healthcare.
• Undertake a comprehensive health and physical assessment of patients across the lifespan.
• Respond appropriately to emergencies in the remote context.
• Provide comprehensive Primary Care and Chronic Disease Management.

Transition to remote practice is an employer-supported program that is undertaken over 12 weeks. The course has been developed utilising the National Rural and Remote Nursing Generalist framework 2023-2027 (Australian Govt. 2023) and the national framework for determining scope of practice of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner workforce (NAATSIHWP 2021) and aligned with the needs of KWHB.

The program will include face-to-face training, practical skills stations, online education, and mentoring support for the duration of the program. Transition to Remote Practice will allow practitioners to develop knowledge and skills linked to the framework domains (Australian Govt. 2023).

Participants will need to complete the 12 week program, a learning plan, two short relevant presentations and maintain a reflective journal. Participants will receive a certificate of completion outlining training and CPD hours.
