The Big Rivers Supporting Recovery from Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence (FDSV) program provides individualised, culturally safe, FDSV-specific care and support to FDSV victim-survivors as part of their longer-term recovery and healing from the impacts of FDSV.
The program is embedded within existing and new FDSV services and programs provided by the partner organisations, and the health clinics operating across the region.
The program’s team of specialist counsellors, social workers and social care engagement and support officers provide on-country, client-centred therapeutic and practical care, with regular, scheduled travel to communities across the region.
The program also provides health promotion and awareness about FDSV to families and communities. Activities will inform and empower women, men and children to identify and respond to FDSV, support victim-survivors, and work together to reduce the rate and impact of FDSV in their community.
The program draws on extensive local knowledge and community consultation to deliver services and programs tailored to each community’s unique needs.
The program was commissioned NT PHN, with funding from the Australian Government.
