AMSNet Project

The commencement of the AMSNet Project in late 2007 was designed to build a safe and secure shared network system for IT and health data in Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services. Katherine West Health Board is apart of this project, in conjunction with our Network IT provider and the Aboriginal Medical Services Association of the Northern Territory. (AMSANT)

The initial phase of this project involved the installation of more powerful satellite receivers, the staged rollout of a new computer system which is specifically designed to quickly access and upload patient data across a rural network, and the installation of monitoring software to ensure the continuity of the system in all our remote health centres.

The AMSNet project is designed to ensure that the IT network in our remote health centres functions to an optimum level.

As a health service, for our staff members on the ground in our remote health centres, this means:
- Optimum Internet Connection and Better Network Speed for accessing and uploading critical Patient Data
- A Better Printing setup.
- That staff no longer need to be on the phone during clinic hours trying to troubleshoot connectivity issues.
- That monitoring of the system is done from a central location, and any failures are instantly communicated to the correct staff member.
- That complete failures of our computer based Patient Information Recall System, Communicare, should not occur.
- That there is a redundancy connection in place, should any outage of Internet Connection occur.
